Keywon Savage, a 20-year-old male from Newark, New Jersey, was a celebrated high school basketball star with a promising future that was tragically cut short. On the evening of Sunday, November 27, 2016, at approximately 7:40 p.m., police responded to reports of gunfire on the 200 block of South 11th Street. Arriving officers found Savage at the scene with gunshot wounds.
He was immediately transported to University Hospital for treatment.
Despite medical efforts, Keywon Savage succumbed to his injuries and passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at around 1:20 p.m. At the time of his death, the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the Newark Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force launched an investigation into the shooting, which they deemed active and ongoing.
