In what was initially believed to be a suicide, the death of 22-year-old Floyd Tigney on September 18, 2016, was later declared a homicide, leading to the arrest of a suspect. Tigney, a male resident of Clifton, New Jersey, was discovered deceased in a Paterson, New Jersey home with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
However, further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death caused authorities to question their initial conclusion. While officials have not publicly detailed what specific evidence led to the change in perspective, the case was ultimately reclassified as a homicide.
This shift in the investigation pointed to the involvement of another individual in Tigney's death.
Following the determination that Tigney had been murdered, Paterson police charged 23-year-old Mickel Morgan with murder and two weapons counts. Morgan, a resident of Paterson, was an acquaintance of Tigney and lived in the home where Tigney's body was found. At the time the murder charges were filed, Morgan was already incarcerated at the Bergen County Jail on an unrelated weapons charge.
