In the early morning hours of October 30, 2018, tragedy struck in Paterson, New Jersey, when 25-year-old Patrick Brown was found with multiple gunshot wounds. The young man, known to his loved ones as 'Pedo' or 'Rico,' was discovered lying in the street on East 28th Street, between Park Avenue and 17th Avenue, at approximately 1:09 a.m. His body was near his parked car.
Emergency services were quick to respond, and Brown was rushed to St. Joseph's University Medical Center.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, his injuries proved to be too severe, and he was pronounced dead at 1:17 a.m. His death marked the ninth homicide in Paterson that year and was part of a string of five shootings that occurred in the city within a one-week period, heightening concerns about gun violence in the community.
Patrick, who was born on March 30, 1993, had spent most of his life in Paterson. He attended Elementary School #26, where he was recognized for his academic achievements, and later attended Paterson Catholic High School before transferring to PCTI. He was remembered by family and friends as a respectful, generous, and ambitious young man with a deep love for sports, music, and fashion. His obituary described him as an inspiration to many, who brought joy and laughter to everyone he met.
In the wake of the shooting, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office and the Paterson Police Detective Bureau launched an investigation. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the person or persons responsible for Brown's death. However, as of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder, and the case remains an open and unresolved investigation, leaving a void in the hearts of his family and the community.
