On the evening of November 3, 2016, a burst of gunfire shattered the night on Fulton Avenue in Jersey City. When police arrived around 9:15 p.m. following reports of shots fired, they discovered the body of 34-year-old Michael Bowers on the sidewalk. Bowers, a male resident of Jersey City, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene before rushing him to Jersey City Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead shortly
before 10:00 p.m.
The investigation into the death of Michael Bowers led to the arrests of two individuals. Khalil Holmes, a 20-year-old from Jersey City, and an unnamed 16-year-old male from Newark were taken into custody. Both were charged with murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a firearm, and conspiracy to commit murder. A judge set bail for Holmes at $1 million, cash only. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit, with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department, conducted the investigation that led to the apprehension of the two suspects.
