In the afternoon of May 9, 2017, the sound of gunfire echoed through Woodlawn Avenue in Jersey City, prompting multiple 911 calls. Responding officers arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. to a grim discovery. There, at 95 Woodlawn Ave, they found the lifeless body of 19-year-old Rasheed Raysor, a resident of the city. The young man, a male, had sustained gunshot wounds to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before 4:00 p.m.
The medical examiner would later confirm that the cause of death was the gunshot wounds, ruling the manner of death a homicide.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit, with the assistance of the Jersey City Police Department, immediately launched an active investigation into the broad-daylight shooting. Initially, authorities sought help from the public to find the person responsible for Raysor's death. Their efforts led them to a suspect just a few days later.
On May 12, 2017, at approximately 1:40 p.m., detectives from the prosecutor's office apprehended Dominique Green, a 23-year-old also from Jersey City. Green was arrested on Bramhall Avenue and Ocean Avenue. He was subsequently charged with murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a firearm in connection with Rasheed Raysor's death.
