In the early morning hours of a Friday in July 2017, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of a Camden, New Jersey neighborhood. When police responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 12:17 a.m., they discovered Dasheem Funches, a 21-year-old male, in the vicinity of the 100 block of Pfieffer Street. He had been shot multiple times.
Emergency services transported Funches to Cooper University Hospital for treatment of his critical injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead at 1:39 a.m. His death was one of two separate fatal shootings that occurred in the city on the same day.
At the time of the initial reports, the investigation into Funches's death was ongoing, with authorities from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Camden County Police Department actively looking into the circumstances surrounding the shooting. No arrests had been made in connection with the homicide, and law enforcement officials urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in their investigation.
