On a Friday evening in Trenton, New Jersey, the life of Anthony Flowers, a 43-year-old Black man from Pemberton, was tragically cut short. On September 15, 2017, at approximately 9:20 p.m., violence erupted on the 500 block of Lamberton Street, resulting in Flowers suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
Responding to a call of a shooting in progress, police officers arrived at the scene to find a harrowing sight.
Inside the vestibule of a residence at 538 Lamberton Street, they discovered Anthony Flowers, unresponsive. Despite immediate medical attention, the severity of his injuries was too great, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting did not claim only one victim that night. Inside the same residence, a woman was also struck by the gunfire. She sustained a gunshot wound to her arm, an injury that was considered non-life-threatening. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into the homicide. However, as of an August 2018 report, the case of Anthony Flowers' murder was listed among the unsolved homicides in Mercer County. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with his death, leaving a community to mourn and questions to linger in the air.
