On the evening of December 21, 2017, what initially appeared to be a routine car accident on the 300 block of Mulberry Street in Trenton, New Jersey, quickly escalated into a homicide investigation. Brian Ficzko, a 40-year-old Caucasian male from Flemington, was found unresponsive in his vehicle after it struck a utility pole and another car. First responders transported him to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where the grim discovery was made that he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound
to the chest. He was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The investigation into Ficzko's death was handled by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force. Details about why the HVAC technician was in Trenton that night were not immediately clear to investigators. Friends and family remembered a softer side of Ficzko, who had a documented history of legal issues, recalling his social media posts with his pet kitten.
In February 2018, a significant breakthrough occurred in the case when a 14-year-old male from Trenton was arrested and charged with Ficzko's murder.
