In the summer of 2017, the life of 15-year-old Kyler Bragg was tragically cut short in Trenton, New Jersey. Kyler, a Black male born on January 17, 2002, was affectionately known as 'Ky-Ky' to his family and friends and was a student in the Trenton Public School system. His life came to a violent end on the night of July 18, 2017, when he was involved in a shootout.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., gunfire erupted near the intersection of Division and Hewitt streets.
Kyler was one of four teenagers shot during the incident. First responders discovered him on the sidewalk, unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including a critical injury to his head. He was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite medical efforts, Kyler Bragg succumbed to his injuries two days later, on July 20, 2017.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting. However, despite their efforts and pleas to the public for information, no arrests have been made in connection with Kyler's death. The case remains unsolved, leaving a community to grapple with the loss of a young life to gun violence and a family still awaiting justice.
