On the evening of New Year's Day in 2018, the city of Orange, New Jersey, was shaken by a violent incident that resulted in the death of 41-year-old Rodney Chery, a male resident of the city. The events unfolded at approximately 7 p.m. in the 100 block of Taylor Street, where police responded to a report of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene with two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
One of the men, identified as Randall Price, 50, also a resident of
Orange, was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:44 p.m. Rodney Chery was found alive but critically injured. He was immediately transported to University Hospital in Newark to undergo emergency surgery. Despite the efforts of the medical team, Chery succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 10:40 p.m. that same night.
The Orange Police Department, in conjunction with the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, launched an investigation into the double homicide. At the time, authorities described the investigation as active and ongoing. However, in the years that have followed, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests made or suspects identified in connection with the deaths of Rodney Chery and Randall Price. The case remains a painful and unresolved chapter for the community, leaving questions about the circumstances of that fatal evening unanswered.
