In the early morning hours of Saturday, August 25, 2018, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on the 200 block of Brunswick Avenue, near Southard Street in Trenton, New Jersey. When police arrived at the scene around 1:00 a.m., they found 21-year-old Jakim Allen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his chest. The young Black man was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment.
Despite the efforts of medical staff, Allen succumbed to his injuries later that afternoon.
The death of Jakim Allen marked another tragic event in a weekend filled with back-to-school community events, which was marred by a spate of gun violence that left several others wounded.
