In the late spring of 2019, the life of 26-year-old Tayshon Hayward was tragically cut short by gun violence in Penns Grove, New Jersey. On May 23, 2019, Hayward was fatally shot, leaving a community to mourn his sudden and violent death. The incident prompted an intensive investigation as law enforcement officials worked to bring those responsible to justice.

Authorities identified Ordale Telfair, 37, as the primary suspect in Hayward's murder. In a grim turn of events, it was discovered that Telfair had been released from prison only eight days prior to the fatal shooting. Following the incident, Telfair fled the area, leading to a multi-state manhunt. He was considered armed and dangerous, elevating the urgency of his capture.

The search for Telfair concluded on June 12, 2019, when members of the U.S. Marshals Service South East Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested him in Powder Springs, Georgia. His arrest was part of a larger law enforcement initiative called “Operation Summer in the City 2,” which targeted fugitives, including many with gang affiliations, across New Jersey. Telfair's capture brought a measure of resolution to the investigation into Tayshon Hayward's death.
