In the afternoon hours of a late spring day, tragedy struck in a Newark, New Jersey neighborhood. On May 31, 2019, Ibn Coates, a 31-year-old man, was fatally shot in the West Ward of the city. The incident unfolded in the 300 block of South 9th Street, a residential area that became the scene of a life cut short.
