On June 21, 2023, at approximately 10:33 a.m., Newark police responded to a report of a shooting on the 100 block of Weequahic Avenue in the city's South Ward. Upon arrival, officers discovered 44-year-old Florham Park resident, Murad Loyal, lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:14 a.m.
