On a Friday evening in September 2019, a young man from the Bronx found his life tragically cut short on the streets of Paterson, New Jersey. Riquelvin Burgos-Nunez, a 24-year-old male, was driving his car along East 31st Street, between 11th and 12th Avenues, when the sound of gunfire shattered the night. He had been shot, a violent and sudden intrusion into an otherwise ordinary evening.
Despite his grievous injury, Burgos-Nunez managed to continue driving for a short distance before
crashing into another vehicle near the intersection of Broadway and East 33rd Street. In the immediate aftermath of the crash, two unidentified individuals reportedly moved him from his vehicle into another and drove away from the scene. They did not take him to a hospital but to a nearby health facility in Rochelle Park. It was there that Riquelvin Burgos-Nunez was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting was launched by the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and the Paterson Police Department. Authorities initially appealed to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible for this violent act. In the early stages of the investigation, it was mentioned that the shooter or shooters may have fled in a red Honda. However, despite the initial leads and public appeals for information, there have been no subsequent announcements regarding any arrests made in the case. The identities of any suspects have not been publicly released, and the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting remain unclear. The two individuals who transported Burgos-Nunez after the crash also remain unidentified in public reports. To date, the case appears to remain unresolved, leaving a lingering sense of unanswered questions surrounding the untimely death of Riquelvin Burgos-Nunez.
