In the early evening of Sunday, April 6, 2020, just before 8 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet near the intersection of Lyons and Union avenues in Irvington, New Jersey. When the chaos subsided, two men were found to have been shot. One of the victims was 65-year-old Lawrence Peterson, a resident of nearby Newark.
Emergency services were quick to respond, but tragically, Peterson's injuries were too severe.
He was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:02 p.m., his life abruptly ended on the pavement of a residential street. The second man who was shot was transported to University Hospital for treatment, though details of his condition were not widely publicized.
