In the autumn of 2016, a fatal shooting in Irvington, New Jersey, claimed the life of 38-year-old Lloyd R. Brummel Jr. On the afternoon of October 25th, at approximately 4:35 p.m., Brummel was standing near his work vehicle in the 300 block of Myrtle Avenue when he was shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene less than twenty minutes later.
The Black / African American man was a resident of Irvington.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, in conjunction with the Irvington Police Department, immediately began an investigation into the shooting. Initially, authorities had not identified any suspects and no arrests had been made, prompting a public appeal for information.
Weeks later, a significant development in the case came with the arrests of two cousins, Jahyde Easterling, 26, of Irvington, and Shadeek Easterling, 34, of East Orange. Warrants were issued for their arrest, and they were taken into custody by detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office and the FBI. Shadeek Easterling faced charges of conspiracy, murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Jahyde Easterling was charged with conspiracy to commit murder. A judge set bail for Shadeek Easterling at $1 million and for Jahyde Easterling at $750,000, with both men being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility.
