In the early hours of a Monday morning in Trenton, New Jersey, the life of 18-year-old Tayvion Jones was tragically cut short. On May 18, 2020, police responded to a ShotSpotter activation for a shooting in the first block of Oakland Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, they discovered the young man in the kitchen of his own home, suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
The investigation into the death of the male teenager quickly led to a suspect. Authorities identified his cousin, 34-year-old Horace Jones of Ewing, as the alleged shooter. He was taken into custody in the vicinity of the crime scene shortly after the incident. Horace Jones was subsequently charged with murder and weapons offenses in connection with his cousin's death.
Further details emerged suggesting a family dispute as the catalyst for the fatal shooting. Sources indicated that the two cousins had been involved in a feud over women.
