In the summer of 2020, the life of a young and talented musical artist was tragically cut short on the streets of Trenton, New Jersey. Covvie Darrel Scott Jr., a 24-year-old male from the neighboring Ewing Township, was fatally shot on the night of Wednesday, July 1, 2020. The incident unfolded around 10:15 p.m. when Trenton police were alerted to the sound of gunfire by a Shot Spotter activation in the area of the 100 block of North Hermitage Avenue.
Despite the technological alert, officers who responded to the scene were initially unable to locate any evidence of a shooting.
The grim reality of the situation became apparent shortly thereafter, when Covvie Scott was transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle. He was suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Medical personnel worked to save his life, but their efforts were in vain, and he was pronounced dead shortly before midnight. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, investigators were also looking into a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of West State and Calhoun streets around the same time, believing it may have been connected to the homicide.
The Mercer County Homicide Task Force and the Trenton Police Department launched a joint investigation into the death of Covvie Scott. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to the apprehension of those responsible for the senseless act of violence. However, despite their efforts, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in connection with the shooting. The case remains an open investigation, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends who remember him as a warmhearted and magnetic individual with a deep passion for music.
