In the late hours of a summer evening, the life of 29-year-old Quamere T. Redding was cut short. On August 4, 2020, what began as a dispute inside a Bridgeton, New Jersey establishment, Las Palmas Tequila Bar, spiraled into a fatal street altercation. Redding, a male who had recently moved to Salem after spending most of his life in Bridgeton, was known for his love of basketball and his devotion to his family and friends.
That night, the argument that started in the bar moved to the streets, escalating into a violent confrontation. Witnesses later reported seeing a large group of men engaged in a heated argument before the sound of gunshots pierced the air. In the chaos that ensued, Quamere Redding sustained gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and then transferred to Cooper University Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
Another man, Earikeem Lewis, also lost his life in the altercation.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Bridgeton Police Department and the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office launched a joint investigation into the double homicide. Law enforcement officials began the meticulous process of collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing any available video surveillance to piece together the events that led to the tragic deaths of Redding and Lewis. Despite their efforts, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects in the shooting. As of now, the investigation into the deaths of Quamere Redding and Earikeem Lewis remains ongoing, with no arrests having been made.
