In the evening hours of December 1, 2020, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in New Brunswick, New Jersey, claiming the life of 20-year-old Dawson Bey. A Black male from the nearby community of Bound Brook, Bey was found with gunshot wounds near the intersection of Suydam Street and Throop Avenue. The call came in to the New Brunswick Police Department at approximately 8:13 p.m., and upon arrival, officers discovered the gravely injured young man.
He was rushed to a local hospital, but his wounds proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
As the investigation into the shooting commenced, authorities learned that another individual had also been wounded in the incident and had made their way to a different area hospital for treatment. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, in conjunction with the New Brunswick Police Department, began to piece together the events of that tragic evening. Their investigation led them to believe that a black sedan was connected to the fatal shooting, and they later released images of the vehicle to the public in the hopes of generating leads.
Despite their efforts and public appeals for information, the case has remained unsolved. No arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Dawson Bey, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The investigation remains active and ongoing, with law enforcement urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible for the death of the 20-year-old to justice. The community was left to mourn the loss of a young life taken by violence as the search for answers continues.
