On the evening of Friday, November 17, 2017, a young man named Tawan J. Moses was found deceased on Throop Avenue, in the vicinity of Feaster Park in New Brunswick, New Jersey. A 25-year-old male from East Orange, Moses had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Police were alerted to the shooting at approximately 8:30 p.m. and, upon arrival, discovered his body.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, in conjunction with the New Brunswick Police Department, immediately launched an
investigation into the homicide. Detectives Brandt Gregus of the New Brunswick Police Department and David Abromaitis of the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office were assigned to the case. Their investigation led to the identification of a suspect.
A few days later, on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, authorities announced the arrest of Kim Carter, a 37-year-old resident of New Brunswick. Carter was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with the fatal shooting of Tawan Moses. Following his arrest, Carter was held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.
