On a cold December evening in Jersey City, New Jersey, the life of Aieshia McFadden, a 36-year-old African-American mother of four, was tragically cut short. On December 4, 2020, while walking with one of her daughters, McFadden was shot and killed outside a liquor store on Martin Luther King Drive. The vibrant cafeteria worker at Lincoln High School, known for her love for her children and her lively personality, was pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center later that night.
The
events leading to McFadden's death began with an unwanted advance. A man reportedly approached and inappropriately touched her. When she rejected his advances and defended herself, the encounter escalated into a fatal argument. The man shot McFadden in the torso, leaving her unresponsive at the scene. The incident drew immediate attention from the community and law enforcement, sparking an intensive investigation into the senseless act of violence.
The day after the shooting, authorities made a swift arrest. Thaddues Williams, a 37-year-old man from East Orange, was taken into custody. He was subsequently charged with murder, illegal weapons offenses, and criminal sexual contact.
