On the night of April 4, 2010, Nia Haqq, a 25-year-old Black female, and her fiancé, Michael Muchioki, were returning to their Jersey City, New Jersey, home after celebrating at their engagement party. As they parked their car on Randolph Avenue, their lives were cut tragically short in a senseless act of violence. The couple was ambushed by two women and a man in what authorities later described as a robbery and carjacking gone wrong. Both Haqq and Muchioki were shot in the head.
