In the early morning hours of August 29, 2021, Donyell D. Coley, a 41-year-old male, was fatally shot in Passaic, New Jersey. The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Speer Village housing complex on Aspen Place, where Coley resided. Struck by multiple gunshots, he was transported to St. Mary's Hospital in a private vehicle, arriving at approximately 5:50 a.m.
Despite medical efforts, he was pronounced dead at 6:36 a.m.
The investigation that followed involved the Passaic Police Department, the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, and federal law enforcement partners. Their collaborative efforts led to the identification of a suspect, Nysheem T. Mann, a 32-year-old from the neighboring city of Paterson. Authorities determined that a dispute between the two men, both of whom had prior criminal records, culminated in the fatal shooting.
Just two days after the shooting, on the evening of August 31, 2021, Nysheem T. Mann was apprehended. He was arrested during a motor vehicle stop on Washington Street in Paterson. Mann faced several charges in connection with Coley's death, including first-degree murder, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a handgun. Known to his loved ones as 'Life,' Donyell Coley was remembered for his compassionate heart and loyalty to his family.
