On a Saturday night in Newark, New Jersey, the life of 17-year-old Djiba Kaba was tragically cut short. On November 27, 2021, the male teenager was fatally wounded in a quadruple shooting that also left three other young people injured. The incident unfolded at approximately 9:00 p.m. in the 900 block of Bergen Street.
Kaba and three other teenagers—another male and two females—were together when individuals in a passing vehicle opened fire on them.
All four victims were struck by the gunfire. Emergency services transported Kaba to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:41 p.m. The other three teens were also taken to the same hospital and received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is leading the investigation into the shooting. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or the vehicle involved in the attack. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Djiba Kaba, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. Law enforcement has urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the case.
