In a quiet Little Ferry, New Jersey home, a family tragedy unfolded, leaving a young woman dead and her older sister accused of her murder. Omelly Dominguez, a 21-year-old Hispanic female, was a nursing student at William Paterson University with a bright future ahead of her. Described by her mother as one of the 'sweetest and most kind-hearted people you could ever meet,' Omelly's life was cut short on March 22, 2022, inside her family's Sand Hill Court residence.
The day of the incident, Omelly's younger brother came home from school to find his sisters, Omelly and 27-year-old Angielly Dominguez, arguing over money. Shortly after, he heard a gunshot. Rushing into the living room, he found his older sister, Angielly, staring at him before she walked out of the house. Omelly was discovered slumped over the couch with a fatal gunshot wound to her head.
The initial 911 call reported a stabbing, but responding officers quickly determined it was a shooting.
The suspect, Angielly Dominguez, had driven over 900 miles from her home in Jacksonville, Florida, to Little Ferry. The day before the shooting, her boyfriend had reported to police in Florida that she had taken his white Ford Mustang and five of his firearms. He had been tracking her phone and had even alerted police when he saw she was in New Jersey, but was reportedly told it was not their jurisdiction. After the shooting, Angielly fled the scene, but was apprehended later that day by a state trooper while driving on the New Jersey Turnpike. The five handguns were found in the trunk of the car.
Angielly Dominguez was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and hindering her own apprehension. She was subsequently booked into the Bergen County Jail to await her court appearance. The tragic event left Omelly's family and friends devastated by the sudden and violent loss of a beloved daughter, sister, and friend.
