In the turbulent summer of 1967, amidst the chaos of the Detroit Riot, a young man named George Talbert, a 20-year-old African American, lost his life. On the evening of July 26th, as he was walking down a street on the city's west side, he was struck by a bullet. The shot was fired by a National Guardsman, later identified as Johann Guykema. Talbert, who was unarmed, reportedly never saw the person who shot him and believed he had been hit by a sniper.
