Fred Temple, an 18-year-old African American, was one of the victims of the tragic Algiers Motel incident that occurred during the Detroit 12th Street Riot on the night of July 25-26, 1967. The incident took place at the Algiers Motel, where a group of young people, including Temple, sought refuge from the chaos engulfing the city. The group consisted of both black and white individuals, including members of a music group called the Dramatics.
