Donald Goines, a prominent African-American writer of urban fiction, met a tragic end on October 21, 1974, at the age of 37. Goines and his common-law wife, Shirley Sailor, were found dead in their apartment in Highland Park, Michigan. The police discovered their bodies after receiving an anonymous phone call. Goines was found in the living room, while Sailor's body was located in the kitchen.
