Russell Allen Herrick, a 27-year-old patrolman with the Burton Police Department in Michigan, tragically lost his life on May 8, 1980. Herrick was responding to a holdup alarm at a store on Davison Road when he was fatally shot. As he and his partner approached the front of the store, Herrick was struck in the back by a shot from a high-powered rifle. His partner was also shot, sustaining injuries to both arms but ultimately surviving.
