In the spring of 2015, a grim discovery was made in the quiet woods of Doyle Township, Michigan, shattering the tranquility of the Upper Peninsula community. On April 17th, the bodies of three individuals were found inside a burned-out vehicle on a remote gravel road. One of the victims was identified as 42-year-old Jody Hutchinson, a male resident of the area. Alongside him were Carrie Nelson, 31, and Heather Aldrich, 25.
The shocking nature of their deaths prompted an intensive investigation by law enforcement.
As detectives delved into the case, the motive behind the triple homicide began to surface, pointing towards a drug-related transaction that had turned violent. The investigation led police to several individuals believed to be involved in the deaths of Hutchinson, Nelson, and Aldrich. The first to be apprehended was Kenneth Brunke, who was arrested in Illinois in connection with the murders. Soon after, State Police arrested two more individuals, bringing the total number of suspects into focus.
The central figure in the tragic events was identified as Garry Cordell, a 47-year-old man from Manistique. Investigators determined that the three victims were killed in a drug deal that had gone awry. Cordell was subsequently arrested and charged with the murders. In a Schoolcraft County courtroom, Garry Cordell pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him, a plea that carried a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Another woman, identified as Carlson, was also charged in connection with the deaths but passed away while in custody. While murder charges against one of the other defendants were eventually dismissed, Garry Cordell's guilty plea brought a degree of legal closure to the brutal case that claimed the lives of Jody Hutchinson, Carrie Nelson, and Heather Aldrich.
