In the summer of 2015, the life of 28-year-old Edward Delrico Johnson Jr., known affectionately as 'Mann,' was tragically cut short in his hometown of Flint, Michigan. On the late evening of Friday, August 7, 2015, Flint Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 300 block of East Baltimore. Upon their arrival, they discovered Johnson had been fatally wounded.
Several other individuals were also injured during the violent incident, with one person sustaining critical injuries.
Edward Johnson Jr., a male born on July 10, 1987, was a well-known and liked figure in his community. He was a graduate of Beecher High School and an avid basketball player, recognized for his athleticism and his signature 'left-handed money shot.' He was a devoted father to four children, whom he lovingly referred to as his 'Fantastic 4.' His friends and family remember him for his vibrant personality, his sharp sense of style, and a smile that could light up a room.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Flint Police Department launched an investigation that quickly led to arrests. That same night, authorities apprehended 28-year-old Shautez Lawson. He was subsequently charged with a string of serious offenses, including 1st Degree Murder for the death of Johnson, three counts of Assault with Intent to Murder for the other victims, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, Felony Firearm, and Discharge of a Firearm into a Building.
The investigation also led to the arrest of another individual, 20-year-old Shonbria McMillian. McMillian was not directly implicated in the shooting itself but faced charges of Lying to Police during a Violent Crime Investigation and Obstruction of Justice for her role in hindering the investigation into Johnson's death. The swift arrests brought a measure of progress to a case that had shaken the community.
