On May 1, 2020, Calvin Munerlyn, a 43-year-old security guard, was working at a Family Dollar store in Flint, Michigan. What began as a routine day took a tragic turn when he enforced the state's mandatory mask policy, a measure put in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. A verbal altercation ensued when Sharmel Teague and her daughter, Brya Bishop, were told they needed to wear face coverings to be inside the store.
