On a Sunday morning in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the life of 34-year-old Jason Lewis Jordan was tragically cut short. On August 9, 2015, at approximately 7:20 a.m., Jordan was seated in a vehicle at the intersection of Franklin Street and Eastern Avenue SE when he was fatally shot. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The investigation into the shooting quickly pointed to a suspect, Antonio Lee Albert, who was 24 years old at the time.
Police identified Albert as the alleged shooter and issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of open murder and felony firearm. According to reports, the events leading up to the fatal encounter began after a contentious car ride from Benton Harbor. It was revealed that Albert was the brother of Jordan's girlfriend.
The situation escalated when the vehicle, a 2012 Chevy Equinox, came to a stop at a traffic light. Albert exited the vehicle, went around to where Jordan was sitting, and attempted to pull him out of the car. It was at this point that Albert fired a. 45 caliber handgun, striking Jordan twice in the head. Grand Rapids police discovered shattered glass at the scene, indicating the shooting likely occurred while the vehicle was stopped at the light.
Four days after the shooting, Antonio Lee Albert Jr. was apprehended by police. In October 2015, he was sentenced for the murder of Jason Lewis Jordan. Albert received a mandatory two-year sentence for the use of a gun during a felony, which would be followed by a sentence of 24 to 72 years for second-degree murder.
