In the spring of 2016, the life of 19-year-old Sacorya Renee Reed, a Black/African American female from Flint, Michigan, was tragically cut short. On April 19, 2016, Reed was found deceased in a Flint apartment alongside her friend, Sasha Avonna Bell. Both young women had been fatally shot. The discovery was made by police after a concerned family member was unable to get in contact with Bell. Reed was a student at Academy West and was just weeks away from her graduation on June 2, 2016.
She was known for her love of sports, particularly softball and basketball.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to an acquaintance of Sasha Bell. The day after the bodies of the two women were discovered, police arrested Malek Thornton in connection with their deaths. As the case progressed, another suspect emerged. Toron Fisher, a 21-year-old from Flint, was ultimately charged in the shooting deaths of Reed and Bell.
Toron Fisher stood trial for the murders of the two young women. His trial concluded with a conviction on charges of first and second-degree murder, in addition to two counts of felony firearm possession. The conviction carried a sentence of life in prison, ensuring that Fisher would be held accountable for the deaths of Sacorya Reed and Sasha Bell. The tragic event left a lasting impact on the Flint community, which was already facing significant challenges.
