In the summer of 2016, a Fourth of July block party on Detroit's east side turned into a scene of tragedy, forever altering the lives of one family. Lamonte Jacobs, a 21-year-old male, was enjoying the holiday festivities in the 5300 block of Cooper Street when gunfire erupted shortly after midnight on July 5th. In the chaos that ensued as the crowd scattered, Jacobs was struck by a bullet. He succumbed to his injuries the following day, leaving behind a grieving family, including a young son.
