In January 2017, the life of Dolores Kay Drouillard, a 54-year-old Caucasian woman, was tragically cut short in her Lansing, Michigan home. On January 10th, she was discovered deceased, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The circumstances of her death quickly pointed to a homicide, launching an investigation that would soon center on her boyfriend.
The primary suspect in the death of Dolores was identified as her 55-year-old boyfriend, Randy Dean Jackson. When questioned by authorities, Jackson stated that he had been drinking heavily on the night of the incident and had no memory of the shooting. Despite his claimed blackout, he concluded that he must have been responsible for her death as he was the only other person present in the house at the time. The investigation uncovered no signs of forced entry into the residence. A revolver was found near Dolores's body, and two shell casings were later discovered in a downstairs garbage can.
The day after Dolores's body was found, Randy Dean Jackson was located and arrested at his parents' house in Watertown Township. During the arrest, law enforcement also recovered Dolores's vehicle. Following his apprehension, Jackson was charged with second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and a felony firearm charge. He initially entered a plea of no contest to the charges, which, while not an admission of guilt, is treated as such for sentencing purposes in the eyes of the court.
Despite a later attempt to withdraw his no-contest plea, the judge presiding over the case denied his request. Consequently, Randy Dean Jackson was sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in prison for his role in the death of Dolores Kay Drouillard. The investigation and subsequent legal proceedings brought a conclusion to the case, underscoring the severe consequences of domestic violence.
