In the autumn of 1980, the community of Lansing, Michigan, was unsettled by the discovery of a beloved elderly resident's body. On October 19, the remains of 77-year-old Edna Ryckaert were found in a creek near Tecumseh Park. An autopsy would later reveal that the cause of her death was strangulation. The nature of the crime sent a wave of concern through the city, leaving friends and neighbors to mourn the loss of a woman in the twilight of her years.
