In the city of Detroit, Michigan, a verbal dispute on May 6, 2017, tragically escalated, leading to the untimely death of 27-year-old Sharietta Jefferson. She was in the company of 39-year-old Murray Upshaw at his family's home in the 8700 block of Epworth Street when the incident occurred. A brief argument with Upshaw's son, Dante Louis Coker, also known as Dante Binion, took a fatal turn.
Following the heated exchange, Coker produced a firearm and fatally shot both his father, who was
visually impaired, and Jefferson. After the shooting, Coker fled the scene. The Detroit Police Department quickly initiated a manhunt and successfully apprehended him the following day at the intersection of East Warren and Eastlawn in Detroit.
Dante Louis Coker was subsequently charged with two counts of First Degree Premeditated Murder and one count of Felony Firearm for the deaths of Sharietta Jefferson and his father. He was arraigned in the 36th District Court. Ultimately, Coker pleaded no contest to the charges brought against him. He was sentenced to a term of 28 to 50 years in prison for his role in the double homicide.
