In the early hours of Labor Day, September 4, 2017, the life of 22-year-old Dearyes Cory-Jevonta Scott was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire on Dartmouth Avenue on the west side of Flint, Michigan. The violent encounter, which unfolded around 3 a.m., also claimed the life of 23-year-old Donquel Lamar Jackson and left a third individual wounded but alive. The incident was a stark reminder of the gun violence that plagued the city.
