In the late hours of a Friday in Pontiac, Michigan, a domestic dispute escalated to a fatal conclusion, ending the life of 36-year-old William Spencer Bell. On May 11, 2018, police received a 911 call from a woman who admitted to shooting her boyfriend. The caller, Marita Glynise Talley, informed the dispatcher that the gun was still inside their home on Lydia Lane and that she would be waiting outside for deputies to arrive.
Upon their arrival at the residence just before midnight,
officers found Talley outside as she had stated and took her into custody without incident. Inside the home, they discovered William Spencer Bell on a sofa, having been shot multiple times. Near his body, investigators found several spent shell casings, evidence of the violent encounter that had transpired.
Marita Glynise Talley, who was 34 years old at the time, was subsequently charged with first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearms violations. An investigation into her background revealed a significant criminal history, including a prior conviction for assault with a dangerous weapon. She was arraigned on the murder charges the following Tuesday.
