In the summer of 2022, a dispute in Pontiac, Michigan, tragically cut short the life of Jaquann Dion 'Quann' 'JG' Garrett, a 29-year-old Black or African American man. The incident unfolded on the evening of June 10th, near Firelite Lane and Cherry Hill Drive, where an argument escalated to violence. During the confrontation, Garrett was shot in the head.
He was rushed to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries three days later, on June 13, 2022.
Witnesses at the scene identified 22-year-old Tony Fong Woo III as the individual who fired the weapon. Following the shooting, Woo fled on foot, prompting a search by the Oakland County Sheriff's deputies. He was quickly named as a suspect and described as being armed and dangerous. Initially, Woo was charged with intent to murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
As the investigation continued and after Jaquann Garrett's death, authorities announced their intention to upgrade the charges against Tony Fong Woo III to murder. Information from news sources indicated that Woo later turned himself in to the police, though the specific details of his arrest and subsequent legal proceedings, including trial, conviction, and sentencing, have not been made publicly available.
