In the early hours of a September morning in 2018, tragedy struck at a White Castle on Detroit's west side, forever altering the lives of three families. Rashawn Harrington, a 25-year-old man, was inside the restaurant when two masked gunmen approached on foot and opened fire. The sudden eruption of violence claimed the lives of Harrington and two other young men, 24-year-old Trevaughn Anthony and 20-year-old DeShawn Gadson.
The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office would later confirm that Harrington and Anthony died from multiple gunshot wounds, ruling their deaths as homicides.
The investigation into the triple homicide led Detroit police to 29-year-old William Wilbourn-Little. He was arrested and subsequently charged with three counts of first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and felony firearm charges. During the trial, a contentious relationship between Wilbourn-Little and one of the victims, DeShawn Gadson, emerged as a key point. Gadson's girlfriend, Mika Pittman, testified that she witnessed the shooting from a car outside the restaurant. She confirmed that Wilbourn-Little and Gadson knew each other and did not get along, providing a possible motive for the deadly assault.
In May 2019, a jury found William Wilbourn-Little guilty on all counts. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. The sentencing hearing was an emotional ordeal for the families of the victims. Gadson's mother spoke of her profound grief and the unanswered questions that still haunted her. The conviction brought a measure of legal justice, but the devastating impact of the senseless act of violence continues to be felt by the families of Rashawn Harrington, Trevaughn Anthony, and DeShawn Gadson.
