On October 20, 2018, Katherine Sturgill, a 60-year-old female, was tragically killed in her Spring Arbor, Michigan, home. The incident, which unfolded at a residence on Moscow Road in Spring Arbor Township, was determined by authorities to be a double murder-suicide.
When police arrived at the scene, they discovered three individuals had been shot.
Katherine's 44-year-old son, Curtis Steven Sturgill, and her 61-year-old live-in boyfriend, Gregory Allen Heath, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Katherine was initially treated by emergency responders and transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health, but she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police concluded that Gregory Heath was the perpetrator. It is believed that Heath shot and killed Curtis Sturgill before turning the weapon on Katherine Sturgill. He then used the firearm to take his own life. Investigators have suggested that the motive for the violent outburst was related to financial and domestic disputes within the household.
Authorities have confirmed that there were no prior calls for any type of violence at the home. With the deaths of all individuals involved, the investigation was concluded. It was determined that Gregory Heath acted alone in the killings, and as a result, no arrests were made, and no other suspects were sought in connection with the deaths of Katherine and Curtis Sturgill.
