On January 2, 2019, the life of 28-year-old Zonte Cade, a Black/African American father of two from Detroit, Michigan, was tragically cut short. The day began with a routine act of fatherhood as Cade dropped off his 4-year-old son at a friend's house before heading out to run an errand. When he failed to return and calls to his phone went unanswered, his family grew worried and reported him missing.
Later that evening, a grim discovery was made on the corner of Rowe Avenue near Pinewood
Avenue. Cade's car was found, the engine still running, its body riddled with bullet holes. There was no sign of Cade himself, deepening the fears of his loved ones. For four agonizing days, his whereabouts remained a mystery. The search came to a devastating end when children playing in a nearby alley stumbled upon his body.
In the wake of his death, Cade was remembered by his mother as a devoted father and a passionate performer in the Detroit music scene, a man with a bright future ahead of him. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved. No arrests have been made, and there are no known suspects in his killing. A reward of up to $2,500 has been offered by Crime Stoppers for any information that leads to an arrest, as his family and community continue to seek justice and closure.
