On a summer evening in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the life of 21-year-old Dontae Lawrence was tragically cut short. On Friday, July 12, 2019, reports of gunfire on North Burdick Street near East Dunkley Street prompted a 911 call around 6 p.m. Arriving at the scene, officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety discovered Lawrence lying in the road with a gunshot wound.
