In the late hours of a Tuesday night in Oshtemo Township, Michigan, the life of 15-year-old Duane Lewis was tragically cut short. On October 29, 2024, deputies from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 5200 block of W KL Avenue around 11:58 p.m. following multiple reports of shots fired. Upon their arrival, they discovered the young man suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders immediately began to treat him at the scene before he was transported to a local hospital. Despite their efforts, Duane succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The young male victim was identified as a student within the Kalamazoo Public School system. He was of Black or African American descent.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities actively working to piece together the events that led to the teenager's death. Investigators believe the shooting occurred at the Concord Place Apartments but not within one of the units. Deputies collected multiple pieces of evidence from the scene in the hopes of shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office has been pursuing leads and gathering evidence to identify the person or persons responsible for this act of violence.
