In a tragic and senseless act of violence, Larry Keandrae Jones, a 25-year-old male, was killed on November 6, 2019, in Mount Morris Township, Michigan. The incident unfolded as a result of a jealous rage, leading to a home invasion and the untimely death of an innocent man.
The perpetrator, Erick Thurman Scott Jr., 30, of Mount Morris Township, arrived at the home of his ex-girlfriend on Milbrook Drive in a fit of anger.
Armed with a gun, he first attempted to gain entry by breaking a window with the butt of his weapon. When that failed, he forced his way through the front door. Inside, he found his ex-girlfriend and her friend, Larry Keandrae Jones.
In a desperate attempt to escape the escalating situation, Jones fled towards the back door. However, Scott pursued him and fired nine rounds, fatally wounding him. The motivation behind this violent outburst was described by prosecutors as an 'apparent rage of jealousy.' After the shooting, Scott also assaulted his ex-girlfriend.
Following an investigation by the City of Flint police and Michigan State Police, Erick Thurman Scott Jr. was arrested and faced a jury trial. The prosecution, led by Assistant Prosecutor Alena Clark, presented a compelling case against him. In June 2022, a jury found Scott guilty on all counts, which included felony murder and nine other felonies related to the home invasion and assault.
For the murder of Larry Keandrae Jones, Erick Thurman Scott Jr. received a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton acknowledged the 'senseless tragedy' and commended the collaborative efforts of law enforcement and the prosecution in securing justice for Larry Keandrae Jones and his loved ones.
