In the winter of 2022, the life of 24-year-old Mikwannza Jamichael Harris, a Black/African American male, was cut short in Flint, Michigan. On the evening of December 23rd, officers from the Flint Township Police Department were dispatched to the 3300 block of Clovertree Lane following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival at the Clover Tree Apartments, they discovered Harris in the parking lot with gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further investigation by the authorities revealed that the incident was a shootout. Another individual, a 27-year-old man from Flint, was also injured in the exchange of gunfire. He later arrived at a local hospital for treatment of his gunshot wounds and was reported to be in stable condition. Preliminary findings suggested that an altercation in the apartment complex's parking lot between Harris and the other man escalated into the fatal shooting.
As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Mikwannza Harris, and the investigation remains active and ongoing. The Flint Township Police Department has urged anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward to assist in their inquiries. The case is set to be forwarded to the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office for review upon the completion of the investigation. The community, along with Harris's family and friends, continues to await answers and hope for justice to be served. Funeral services for Harris were held on January 19, 2023, at the Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel in Flint.
